Hip Kit - Standard Review

This kit looked like a "me too", if maybe a little cheaper than some others. But the components are all well-made and durable, and they really work. I purchased the kit just before my total hip replacement 6 weeks ago and, although I can now walk anywhere and drive with no pain whatever, I am just beginning to be able to dress myself without it. If you don't yet know this, the big problem is that you aren't permitted to (and CAN'T!) bend at the hip for the first several weeks, which makes dressing yourself a real challenge. You'll constantly need the grabber tool, which works OK. And you'll really need the cleverly-designed dressing stick to help get your pants on and off. I was especially skeptical about the sock puller since I wear tight knee-high support socks. My wife had to really struggle to get them on - especially on the operated leg, which was somewhat swollen. But with this device I was able to put them on myself. And you'll really need the long shoehorn, too - especially when you start wearing street shoes again. The sponge might have been useful for washing my feet during the week after surgery, before I was permitted to shower. But I never found a way of drying them properly, so I could only wash my feet when somebody was available to provide "dry & powder" service.

If you're about to have hip surgery, I highly recommend this kit. Make sure it's waiting for you when you return home. With it, life will be much simpler for you and your care provider.
