I won't go into a log song and dance as to why I bought these bags, but I us them in an industrial setting where by previous bags, although slightly better quality cost two to three times as much. It may just be the feel of the recycled plastic that makes these bags feel a bit lighter then the claim of 1.6 mil. I cannot say that I have actually gotten a micrometer out and measured them. Now that I think about it, I might just do that. But all in all they are a fine bag and get the job done. I think that the gathered bottom makes them a bit easier to get in and out of the large containers we use. The previous bags had a single seam bottom which made them difficult to pull out with heavy loads because they would spread out so far. These are gathered at the bottom which aids in removal with heavily loaded bags
