This set of plastic cutlery looks like it's been dipped in chrome. It looks a lot nicer than regular black/white/clear plastic utensils. But, it still feels like plastic utensils. I would say the weight and strength is comparable to regular plastic utensils and not the heavy duty variety. The forks had difficulty lifting larger hunks of barbecued meats as the handles would bend. None snapped under pressure of normal use though.
Initially, I was afraid that the metal would chip off and end up in the food but that didn't happen. I even washed a couple with a scrubby sponge and was pleased that they help up wonderfully--no chips or scratches. Thus, I was satisfied that there would be no metal flakes in my food or the food I serve to guests.
My guests enjoyed these utensils and liked the way they looked. Some were even hesitant to throw them away. I would buy them again for nicer get-togethers, birthdays, showers or afternoon tea. I would not use them for really casual backyard barbecues because there is not enough place settings to go around in such a small package and I would have to buy several packages to have enough. Plus, they don't feel durable enough for that kind of rough and tumble use.
