Product Description
Fetterman Ice Tip "pullovers" provide enhanced safety protection from slipping and falling on icy surfaces. They work well in light snow but in deeper snow they will pull into the disengaged position. Like all assistive technology, it is impossible to make one product that will work well for everyone in all weather conditions. I invented Fetterman Ice Tips because I couldn't leave my house one icy winter. Fetterman Ice Tips socket over the ends of most cane and crutch tips. They work on the same principal as studded snow tires. Your safety is greatly enhanced when used in conjunction with the SpikyPlus footwear system that pullover shoes and boots. Fetterman Ice Tips come in three sizes so be sure you know the base diameter of your crutch or cane tip. To engage them just grab the red cup and pull it over the bottom of you crutch tip. They are easily disengaged by pushing one tip against the other and they pop up and rest alongside the crutch tip.The spikes are small but tough and durable so you can walk on cement sidewalks without hurting them.Wearing them indoors will damage floors. Living in Jacksonhole, Wyoming, I have become a reluctant "expert" on ice tips for forearm crutches. These are far superior than the dangerous "5 pronged" variety, and they work well on compacted ice and snow. I also like how these tips work really well on wood sidewalks and porches without damaging the wood. They also won't damage carpets, so if you accidentally leave them on when you go inside, no harm is done. Their weakness is in soft snow, where there just isn't enough traction. I've purchased every ice tip I could find. My favorite so far is Retractable Ice and Snow Spike Tip for Canes and Crutches - Medium but it's asymmetry leaves it with room for improvement. My crutches currently have both of these tips on them (they don't interfere with each other). When there isn't any fresh snow, I use the Fetterman ice grip tips to get out the door, and only switch to the beefier tip when conditions call for it.Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Fetterman Ice Grip Tips for Crutches" are high quality item.
